PAGO PAGO — Congresswoman Aumua Amata extended her congratulations to the United States National Park Service as they celebrate their centennial August 25.

“I want to congratulate the United States Park Service for their One Hundred Years of stewardship and safeguarding of our most treasured places,” stated Amata. “The work they do is priceless to our nation, who is grateful for their efforts, in preserving our unique and rich geographical and natural resources.”

Tomorrow marks the 100th anniversary of the Park Service with celebrations and events being held at National Parks around the country.

Created on August 25, 1916, by Congress through the National Park Service Organic Act, The National Park Service is tasked with conserving all U.S. National Parks and many of the American National Monuments.  “I also want to extend a very special thank you to the National Park of American Samoa for protecting the rich culture and natural resources of our beautiful islands, and look forward to continuing to work with them to continue their mission, so that there will another celebration in another one hundred years,” concluded Amata.

Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga and Congresswoman Amata are both scheduled to attend The National Park of American Samoa’s Centennial festivities at the Suigaula ole Atuvasa Beach Park in Utulei on Friday, August 26, from 9am to 1pm.
